Okinawa - Day 3

Our last day in Okinawa (February 25, 2008) was a short one to be sure. We left the resort early to drive back toward the airport. Our final sight-seeing destination was Shurijo Castle. We learned some history on this tour. Okinawa and 64 other smaller islands are also known as the Ryukyu Islands. These islands governed themselves for many centuries and had their own kings and queens. It wasn't until after 1868 that the Ryukyu Islands come under the rule of the Japanese government. These islands were influenced by China and Japan, but established their own culture.

After we finished our tour of the castle, it was time to head to the airport and return to Tokyo.
