Once more to Nikko

The most beautiful area within driving distance of Tokyo (in my opinion) is Nikko. We have visited Nikko twice already this year and I was itching to go again and see the autumn foliage around the waterfalls. When we went in late April, the trees were bare and hadn't begun to bloom. This was especially surprising since the cherry blossom trees had bloomed in Tokyo about a month prior. When we visited Nikko in late May the azaleas were showing off their spring colors. This too was about a month different from Tokyo. The weatherman said the Nikko would be in its peak autumn glory the weekend of November 3 and 4. I wish he could've whispered that information in my ear. All of western Japan flocked to the Nikko area. What should have been a two-hour trip took five. The views were pretty. Of course, sitting still in the car for that long was difficult on Addison. We brought along her music and listened to it endlessly. She also started to do some self-entertaining by putting Minnie Mouse on her head and working on the skill of putting her socks on by herself.

When we finally arrived at Ryuzu falls (dragon falls), I couldn't believe my eyes. All the trees were bare. There was not one colorful autumn leaf to be seen. Ryuzu falls is still the most beautiful falls in Nikko. It was quite chilly next to the falls, but that didn't stop Addy from wanting an ice cream! She happily ate it with her mittens on.

Ian took the very scenic route to return to Tokyo. It gave us another opportunity to look at the beautiful foliage still present on the mountains and kept us out of traffic.

Here's the entire day's picture log.
